Wisconsin’s Kissinger named
Environmental Career Counselor of the Year

The Environmental Career Center (ECC) named Sue Kissinger as the Environmental Career Counselor of the Year based upon receiving the most votes recorded at EnvironmentalCAREER.com by midnight (ET) on May 24, 2001.

The Environmental Career Center established the annual competition for the Environmental Career Counselor of the Year award to recognize the nation’s most outstanding environmental student career services professional of the academic year.

Seven excellent candidates competed for the second annual award. Last year’s top counselor was Yale’s Peter Otis.

Students, graduates, and faculty nationwide voted again this year for the nation’s top environmental career advisor. A total of 878 votes were recorded. The University of Wisconsin - Steven Point’s Sue Kissinger won top honors by capturing 63% of the overall vote.

Sue is the Coordinator of Advising and Recruitment for the College of Natural Resources (CNR) at the University of WI - Stevens Point (1992 - present). She is also the advisor for the CNR Peer Advising Center, CNR Student Advisory Panel and Women in Natural Resources. Sue has a bachelor’s degree in Urban Forestry and Forest Recreation and a master’s degree in Natural Resources from the UW - Stevens Point.

Here’s what some of the voters had to say about Sue Kissinger’s environmental career counseling and advising:

“Sue is a tireless student advocate, providing exceptional academic and vocational advising, encouragement and support to students.”

“She has consistently helped me in my pursuit of a career in Environmental Ed. She is always there for students and is always encouraging us to do our very best. She is one of the most helpful people that I had met at my entire university and had been a critical part of my success at Stevens Point!”

“Sue Kissinger is one of the best advisors I have ever seen.”

“She is in such high demand with students that she has a sign-up list during her office hours that is always full. Sue deserves the Environmental Career Counselor/Advisor of the year because she is a very dedicated, amiable, and motivated person.”

“Sue is the nicest and most helpful counselor I’ve ever had! She always has a smile on her face, knows the students by name, and is willing to go out of her way for anyone.”

“She has been of great help. Definitely a great counselor!” “...an outstanding guide to future careers.”

“She has given me so much more confidence in the way I now go about choosing and looking at my career options as a soon-to-be-graduating natural resources student.”

“She deserves to be recognized nationally for her hard work and dedication to others in helping them reach their professional goals.”

“Sue is an inspiration to the students in the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She is loved by students and faculty alike and deserves this great honor.”

Congratulations Sue Kissinger,
