Manice Education Center

The Manice Education Center is a small residential center for environmental education and outdoor recreation located in the Berkshires of northwestern Massachusetts. MEC is a non-denominational private non-profit that accepts low-income students ages (11-18) from NYC.

Field Teachers (4 openings)
Manice Education Center, Florida, MA.

RESP: Lead small, co-ed groups in outdoor lessons on ecology, wilderness and leadership skills. Overnight supervision of tent group. Five multi-day summer backpack/canoe trips. QUAL: Self-motivation, patience, enthusiasm; BA/BS in related field; teaching and outdoor experience; Current First Aid/CPR and Lifeguard certifications. SLRY: $300/week, room & board, accident-sickness insurance, equipment discounts, $300 bonus for completing 6-month term. AVAIL: April 23 - Oct 24, 2002

Assistant Director (1 opening)
Manice Education Center, Florida, MA.

RESP: Coordinate residential EE program; train, supervise & evaluate instructional staff of 8-12; serve as Acting Director in Director’s absence; recruit students for summer and afterschool programs. QUAL: Excellent motivational, organizational & interpersonal skills; patience, enthusiasm; BA/BS in related field; teaching and outdoor experience; current First Aid/CPR and Lifeguard certifications. SLRY: $375/week, room & board, accident-sickness insurance, equipment discounts, $300 bonus for completing 6-month term. AVAIL: April 23 - Oct 24, 2002

Wilderness Program Coordinator (2 openings)
Manice Education Center, Florida, MA.

RESP: Coordinate wilderness education & expedition programs; food/route/equipment logistics for all wilderness trips, including driving; supervise three high school assistants. QUAL: Excellent organizational skills; driver’s license with good record; ability to drive 15 passenger van with a canoe trailer; significant experience planning wilderness trips; current First Aid/CPR. SLRY: $275/week, room & board, accident-sickness insurance, equipment discounts. AVAIL: June 1 - Sept 1, 2002
