RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Tellus
Institute, a Boston-based non-profit environmental research and
consulting organization, seeks qualified candidates for a challenging
mid-level position in its Business and Sustainability Group. The
successful candidate will contribute to a diverse range of research
projects that address the dynamic intersection of business, the
environment and sustainable development. Special emphasis includes:
developing and evaluating environmental policies at the state,
federal and local levels that leverage traditional regulatory
tools with innovative incentive-based approaches; and collaborating
with businesses and their stakeholders to design and test new
strategies that encourage beyond-compliance performance. Topics
addressed by current projects include: evaluating and developing
innovative approaches to compliance assurance, permitting and
other regulatory practices; P2 regulatory integration; development
of innovative approaches to environmental policies including approaches
to enhanced public accountability; using reduced insurance premiums
to encourage P2; environmental accounting; greening the supply
chain.
Applicants
should possess strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
related to the evaluation of environmental policy and business
strategies. Strong oral, written and communication skills are
essential as well as computer proficiency. Project work requires
writing research reports and articles and on-the-ground collaboration
with policymakers, businesses and research partners. Research
often includes frequent interaction with representatives from
business, trade organizations, government, NGOs and foundations.
The successful applicant is expected to manage substantial project
tasks with a high degree of autonomy and contribute to the development
of new projects and research areas. Prior management experience
and familiarity with the U.S. environmental regulatory system
are highly desirable. Candidates should have outstanding academic
records in environmental science, economics, business, engineering,
or a multidisciplinary policy program. A minimum of three years
of relevant work experience or an advanced degree is required.
Salary range is $37- 45K depending upon education and prior relevant
work experience.
