ENVIRONMENTAL
STUDIES (2 positions)
The
Department of Environmental Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences
of the University of New England announces two openings starting
Fall 2002 and invites applications from persons holding a Ph.D.
or J.D. in an environmental or related field. One is a tenure-track,
Assistant Professor, and the second is a sabbatical replacement
Instructor. The tenure-track position involves teaching and coordination
of courses in Environmental Awareness for all first-year students
and the development of a research program relevant to environmental
issues. The Instructor position involves teaching in introductory
courses and in the second-year Learning Community on Sustainability.
Both positions also involve teaching in a field of specialty. We
seek candidates who have a deep commitment to environmental education
at the undergraduate level and have broad, interdisciplinary interests.
Our
undergraduate, interdisciplinary program emphasizes problem?solving,
critical thinking, student research and active participation at
the local, national and international level. Undergraduate research
is encouraged. Areas for program expansion include but are not limited
to: resource management, policy, political science, alternative
technology, environmental design, environmental education, wildlife
conservation. Campus facilities include the new $8 million state-of-the-art
Marine Science Center for Research and Education and a 380 acre
maritime forest study site located on the coast of Maine.
