Environmental Specialist I - Department of Environmental Quality, Richmond, Virginia. Announcement Number: W0171. Salary: $18 - $20 per hour. Analyzes environmental impacts of state and federal projects and coordinates with appropriate State agencies, planning district commissions, and localities and prepares recommendations to ensure compliance with State laws, policies, and regulations. Coordinates responsibilities for federal intergovernmental reviews, consistency of federal actions with state requirements, and oil and gas drilling permits. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and/or abilities in analyzing state environmental impact review requirements/procedures, federal requirements pursuant to NEPA, the CZMA and Virginia''s Coastal Resources Management Program; state environmental and permit programs; site plans; site assessment; identifying potential environmental impacts, negotiating environmental/issues; upgrade/maintain PC/database operations for tracking projects; oral and written communication skills; graduation from an accredited college/university with major study in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, policy analysis or equivalent training/experience is preferred. Environmental Specialist I - Department of Conservation & Recreation, Washington. Announcement Number: 00429. Salary: $32,000 - $36,000 annual. Description of Duties: This position is responsible for a wide range of management activities which include developing and writing management plans for each preserve in the region and being involved with planning and implementing biological monitoring program and scientifically-based eceological studies, plus prescribed burning, invasive species control, natural community restoration, and conservation planning projects. Will develop community-based support teams of volunteers and coordinate site management activities. Will provide technical consultations for natural area stewardship issues to a range of clients. Education: Bachelors degree in natural resource management, conservation biology, forestry, wildlife management, applied ecology, biological science, or environmental science required. Masters degree preferred. Extensive work-related training in natural areas management including prescribed burning, invasive species control, biological monitoring, and habitat restoration. Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of people including, scientists, private landowners, land managers, and government officials. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency with personal computer applications including word processing, GIS/GPS and spreadsheets. VA driver's license required.
